The much photographed Namib Feral (wild) horses can often be found grazing beside the B4 road about 20km west of Klein Aus. The stunning scenery of high yellow grass and mountains makes for beautiful photo opportunities – and the location of the viewpoint frequented by the horses makes the photography in the afternoon generally better than it is in the morning. - View lodge details

Around December, January and February – during the rains – this area is covered in a carpet of beautiful yellow 'devils' thorn' flowers. It brings colour and life to the Kalahari, and then it's a lovely time for photographers to shoot the stunning scenery here – and close-up shots of the meerkats can be a real bonus too. - View lodge details

Luderitz is a good spot for photographers who can visit the breeding colony of African penguins on Halifax Island, on one of the Sedina's boat trips – which are also good for spotting heavy-side dolphins and cape fur seals. The stunning scenery of the Namib's high red/orange sand dunes in the Naukluft Park is one of the great sights of Southern Africa – it's a 'must see' for most photographers. Sossus Dune Lodge is now probably the best lodge for self-drive visitors to catch the early-morning rays on the dunes. - View lodge details
