Samango Safari

This private 4WD safari is led by a professional guide around Southern Tanzania, taking in Mikumi National Park and driving right across Selous Game Reserve from east to west: it is an unusual trip as most of our travellers choose to fly between these parks of Southern Tanzania, rather than drive.

After your safari, if you want to relax on the beach, then add one of our beach add-on trips to Zanzibar, Pemba, Ras Kutani or the Mafia Archipelago, to your itinerary.

Day 1
Depart London Heathrow on your scheduled overnight flight with British Airways to Dar Es Salaam Airport.

Days 2-4 Mikumi & Udzungwa, Tanzania
On arrival at Dar Es Salaam Airport, your superior guide and private 4WD will meet you for the drive to Mikumi National Park, which is roughly a four-hour drive from Dar. Here you will stay for 3 nights at…
Foxes Safari Camp (full board & activities)
Mikumi National Park is one of Tanzania's quieter and more offbeat parks, and makes an interesting place to explore. Sharing the long boundary with the Selous, Mikumi does have some good game passing through – although many travellers will use Fox Camp as a base for a full day-trip to hike in the ecologically interesting Udzungwa Mountains.

Days 5-6 Selous Game Reserve, Tanzania
Sable Mountain Lodge Heading northeast from Mikumi, you turn south to enter Selous. It's a long but very interesting 5-6 hour drive through busy villages and some rugged, rural areas until you reach the northern fringe of the Selous Game Reserve. There you stop outside the park for 2 nights at …
Sable Mountain Lodge (full board & activities)
Base yourself at Sable Mountain Lodge to enjoy the beauty of the Selous with your own private guide and vehicle. Sable Mountain may be a long way from the lakes and rivers, which are often the focal point for visits to the park, but you can reach these easily on a whole-day drive with a picnic lunch – which we'd highly recommend.

Days 7-10 Selous Game Reserve, Tanzania
Rufiji River Camp After a hearty breakfast, you depart on a full day's safari, driving from Sable Mountain to the far western side of the Selous. It is roughly five hours through the reserve, although it can be much longer as you stop for the wildlife, but eventually your guide will say goodbye, and leave you at the welcoming…
Rufiji River Camp (full board & activities)
Set on the banks of the Rufiji River – home to plenty of crocodiles and hippo – the camp is your base for 4 nights. Enjoy safari excursions with the camp's own safari guides, including game drives in open 4WDs and boat activities, or just relax by the swimming pool as you listen to the calls of the wild.

Day 11
After your last morning on safari, fly to Dar es Salaam, to either continue onto one of our beach add-on trips, or overnight in the city prior to connecting with your early-morning British Airways flight back to London, departing on the following day.
