Impala self-drive
This classic self-drive safari spends 10 nights in Namibia, concentrating on the north of the country – and especially on the superb game-viewing area of Etosha National Park – starting at a comfortable guest house in Windhoek and finishing at Okonjima, home of the Africat Foundation, on the way back.
|
Starting from London Gatwick, your scheduled Air Namibia overnight flight will take you directly (and non-stop) to Windhoek, where you land early in the morning. |
|
On arrival pick up your hire car; the airport is an easy 45-minute drive to Windhoek. Drive to Windhoek and your guesthouse for the evening. You have time to explore the city this afternoon or simply just relax by the pool. |
| Pension Palmquell (bed & breakfast) |
After breakfast you head north through the town of Okahandja to the Waterberg Plateau Park Resort. After relaxing afternoon by the pool take a hike up the mountain and enjoy the spectacular views from up there. |
| Waterberg Camp (bed & breakfast) |
This morning drive yourself further north for about three hours to the western side of Etosha National Park. Based here, you can easily explore Etosha's network of good gravel roads in your own vehicle, relaxing by the flood-lit waterhole at night. You stay here for 2 nights in a simple restcamp – |
| Okaukuejo Restcamp (bed & breakfast) |
Leave the camp at sunrise to the make the most of the game viewing. Spend your day exploring the many well-signposted roads, sitting quietly at some of the waterholes watching and photographing game as it comes to drink. These 2 nights you'll be based at – |
| Halali Restcamp (bed & breakfast) |
Spend another day game driving through the park. Etosha is home to over 300 different species of birds, most of Africa's main big-game animals (including lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, giraffe and rhino), and a myriad of fascinating smaller ones. On your way, pass the vast pan and open planes in the centre of the park, before reaching your base on the eastern side of the park. Relax yet another 2 nights at |
| Onguma Bush Camp (half board) |
After your last morning game driving in the park, you leave Etosha heading south on a good tar road for two hours before arriving at your next lodge in the early afternoon, in time to take part in one of their many activities. Here you will stay for 2 nights at the popular – |
| Okonjima Main Camp (full board & activities) |
|
After two days at Okonjima, you drive back to Windhoek Airport, perhaps stopping at Okahandja market for any last minute curios. Arriving at the airport in good time to drop off your rental car, you then connect to your scheduled overnight flight back to the UK with Air Namibia. |
|
You arrive back in London Gatwick early in the morning, making connecting to other flights, or travel back to your home in the UK, very easy. With a minimal time difference between Namibia and the UK, there's seldom any real jet lag – at the end of such a magical holiday. |
