Elephant safari

This is a top safari, staying in a camp that's consistently voted as one of the very best by our travellers; it journeys to southern Tanzania's Selous Game Reserve, for five superb nights at Beho Beho, with open-topped 4WD safaris, delightful boat trips on Lake Tangalala, and (particularly) first-class safaris on foot led by the resident walking safari guides.

Day 1
Starting from London Heathrow, your scheduled British Airways flies overnight directly to Dar es Salaam.
(See our comments on flights to Tanzania for more information on the flight options for your trip.)

Days 2-6 Selous Game Reserve, Tanzania
Beho Beho Landing early in Dar es Salaam, you'll be met and transferred to the domestic terminal to connect to a light aircraft to Beho Beho airstrip in the Selous Game Reserve. This flight is about 50 minutes, and upon arrival in the Selous you'll be driven for barely 5 minutes to...
Beho Beho (full board & activities)
You usually arrive in time for an excellent lunch, before going out for your afternoon activity. Your 5 nights here include activities with a high standard of guiding, with 4x4 drives, boat safaris and some of Tanzania's best walking safaris.

Day 7
After your last morning on safari, you fly to Dar es Salaam, and then either continue onto one of our beach add-on trips to Zanzibar, or further afield, or overnight in the city prior to connecting with your early-morning British Airways flight to London.

Adding a few days of beach relaxation to this safari is easy; we have lots of ideas! An easy addition would be a beach on Zanzibar, although for a quieter island, with great diving and snorkelling, consider our ideas for beach holidays on Mafia.

Alternatively, continue your trip at a stunning private islands in northern Mozambique. Our beach holidays to Quirimbas Archipelago include some wonderfully remote and very beautiful private islands.

At the other end of the scale, for a very short addition, consider two or three days by the coast. Our trips to Ras Kutani include minimal travel as it's only an hour's drive (or 10 minutes' flight) south of Dar!

This itinerary includes:
• Economy flights as above, plus all UK and Tanzania international departure and passenger service taxes.
• All domestic transfers in Africa.
• The current park fees for your time in the national parks - U$75 per person per night for Selous.
• All guided safari activities, including drives, boat trips and walking safaris.
• A laundry service and most drinks are included (including all soft drinks, house wines and local beers & spirits)
• A comprehensive pack of information for the trip, including a copy of the Bradt Travel Guide to Zanzibar, Pemba & Mafia, which includes Selous Game Reserve.

This itinerary excludes:
• Tanzanian domestic departure taxes – these are currently about U$6 per flight.
• Any park fee increases over and above the rates that have been included above.
• Champagne, vintage wine and certain imported spirits.
• Tips and gratuities (which are optional).
