Buffalo Safari
This is the definitive mobile walking safari: the original and probably the best! It's run on just a few dates per year, starting and ending at two excellent permanent camps, whilst the heart of the safari is
5 nights at a remote and simple 'mobile' walking camp – which moves with the group and is a mobile base for exploring the remote north of
South Luangwa National Park on foot. The whole trip is run by top-notch specialist
Robin Pope Safaris, and guided throughout by one of their top safari guides.

Fly from London Heathrow, on your scheduled British Airways overnight flight directly to Lusaka Airport. |
Landing early in Lusaka, you connect onto a 60-minute flight to Mfuwe, beside South Luangwa National Park. You are met on arrival and driven for about 45 minutes, through the growing villages of Mfuwe, and slightly to the south side of the park. Arriving in time for an excellent brunch, you stay for 2 nights overlooking the wide Luangwa River at – |
| Nkwali (full board & activities) |
| Here you meet the small group (maximum 6 people) that you are sharing the trip with; and you all have chance to make the most of 4WD game drives and night drives from there – as well as walking safaris. |
|
After an early morning activity, your guide drives you in an open 4WD straight through the heart of the park, to the remote north – stopping at any interesting flora or fauna along the way. Some hours later, you arrive at the first site of the mobile camp, chosen as the most game-rich area beside the Mupamadzi River. Stay for 1 night at… |

| Here, in the far north of the park, the camp is basic and your safari takes on a really wild feel. Mobile camps are simple but comfortable, with hot bucket showers and long-drop loos! You spend much of your time exploring the park and viewing the animals on foot, always with your experienced guide and an armed game scout. |
|
Starting at sunrise, you explore the area on foot. This region of the park is wild and remote; its game comes into contact with few people. Your guide is an expert tracker, who can teach you about the bush's smaller creatures, as well as how to track big game. Your mobile camp will have been packed up and moved to its next site, where you arrive in time for lunch, a siesta and an afternoon walk. Stay here for 2 nights - |

Getting up at sunrise as usual, the camp will again be packed up whilst you're walking. The sites used for this 'mobile' camp often lie beside the Mupamadzi – following it east along its course, towards its confluence with the great Luangwa. From June to September, the Mupamadzi River is usually clear and shallow – and can make a cool (and safe!) place to paddle in to cool off in the heat of the day. After your morning walk, you'll arrive at the mobile's third and last site for 2 nights - |

After rising early, leave the mobile camp with your guide for a 4-5 hours drive right across the north of the park – to a crossing point on the Luangwa River. It's a short hop by boat across this, and then a 20-minute drive to your last camp. Here you stay for 3 nights in the heart of the Luangwa's very different Nsefu Sector, at – |
| Tena Tena (full board & activities) |
| As usual with Robin Pope's permanent camps, here you always have the choice of walking safaris, 4WD safaris, and night drives – so it's up to you how to explore here. |
|
Leaving Tena Tena in the morning, you transfer back to Mfuwe for the 60-minute flight to Lusaka, to connect with a scheduled flight to Johannesburg, and thence a scheduled British Airways overnight flight back to London Heathrow. |
|
Arrive back at London Heathrow early in the morning, after a superb safari. This leaves you plenty of time to continue your journey home. |
