Barbet guided safari

This 4WD safari with your own private superior guide combines an authentic cultural experience with a great wildlife safari; base yourself first at a Maasai-owned lodge, to mix with the community and learn about Maasai culture, before a safari into the Ngorongoro Crater and finally a lodge in the heart of the Serengeti National Park for some top-notch game viewing.

Day 1
Depart London Heathrow on your scheduled overnight flight with British Airways to Dar es Salaam.

Days 2-3 Lake Manyara National Park, Tanzania
E Unoto Retreat On arrival at Dar es Salaam, you will connect with a light flight up to Arusha. Here you will be met by your private superior guide and 4WD. You drive through the bustling centre of Arusha, stopping if you wish, before the country opens out onto sisal plains. After about 2 hours' drive, you reach the base of the Rift Valley Escarpment. There, hidden away, you find –
E Unoto Retreat (full board & activities)
Because this is a private safari, you can choose exactly what you want to do for your 2 nights here. Hike with your Maasai hosts to a nearby waterfall, visit one of the local communities, explore the escarpment on a mountain-bike, or head off on safari.

Days 4-5 Ngorongoro Crater & Conservation Area, Tanzania
Rhino Lodge After breakfast, you choose when to leave E Unoto. Lake Manyara National Park is en route, so perhaps stop here for a morning's safari, or a picnic lunch beside the hippo pool. Then head up an amazing road onto the Great Rift Valley Escarpment, before entering the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and shortly arriving for 2 nights at –
Rhino Lodge (full board & activities)
Rhino Lodge is a brand new lodge, set within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a mere 10-minute drive from the Crater rim. Spend the afternoon on a guided walk – exploring the surrounding wilderness. Then the next day rise early for the drive into to the Ngorongoro Crater

Days 6-8 Serengeti Migration Area, Tanzania
Mbalageti Lodge In the morning, drive back around the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater; before descending from the highlands and down onto the vast flat plains of the Serengeti. Pass traditionally-dressed Maasai herding their cattle, and onto a safari through the Serengeti National Park before arriving for 3 nights at the high-quality and quirky –
Mbalageti Lodge (full board & activities)
This comfortable and relatively large camp, is perfectly located through the months of May to July, for the great migration. In these months the wildebeest herds are moving north from the Southern Plains. Then around June, they often build up in huge numbers, before crossing the Mbalageti River in a flurry of action. During your 3-night stay you safari with your own private guide and 4WD – the best way to see the Serengeti!

Day 9
This morning your private superior guide drives you on a final safari to an airstrip in the Serengeti, for a light-aircraft flight back over the Great Rift Valley back to Arusha Airport to either continue onto one of our beach add-on trips, or catch a flight back to Nairobi, and thence connect with your overnight British Airways flight back to London Heathrow.

Day 10
You arrive in London Heathrow in the early morning after a superb safari – in plenty of time to continue your journey home during the morning. Or perhaps consider a beach holiday to Zanzibar
