Waterberg Plateau Lodge

 - Waterberg Plateau National Park, Namibia
Read 5 traveller reviews of Waterberg Plateau Lodge

Standing on the top of the Waterberg Plateau, Waterberg Plateau Lodge is a small satellite-lodge linked closely with its sister-lodge, Waterberg Wilderness Lodge.

The final few kilometers of the drive to Waterberg Plateau Lodge is narrow and steep, but well paved – and once you reach the top of the plateau, you are normally greeted by a staff member who shows you to your chalet. You can normally park your car near your room – in the thick, red sand that is characteristic of this sandstone plateau.

Each of the six chalets at Waterberg Plateau Lodge is very private, and set apart from the rest, and each has its' own individual plunge-pool. They are all constructed of stone and brick, with bright red corrugated iron roofs. Inside, the chalets are impressively cool – helped by stone walls and red, terracotta tiled floors.

Each spacious twin-bedded chalet has a walk-in shower, with a wash basin and flush toilet. Guests are provided with basic toiletries in the bathrooms. There is a little table with two chairs in your room, and these can be carried outside onto your private porch. Each of the chalets has a small fire place to warm up your room during the cold winter months – and tea/coffee making facilities.

When we last visited in the height of the dry season, in September, the area surrounding the lodge was very green, with thick bush and steenbok scurried around as I drove up onto the plateau. There was also quite a lot of birdlife around - although I didn't have much time to enjoy it!

Breakfast for guests at Waterberg Plateau Lodge is usually served at the nearby Waterberg Wilderness Lodge and this is also where all of the activities start from.

By contrast, dinner is always served up at a small dining room at the Plateau Lodge itself.

The main attraction of this lodge is its location, which has the most spectacular views; this is the only place that allows you to stay on top of the Waterberg Plateau with comfort!

However, currently this is very much a small satellite of the original Waterberg Wilderness Lodge; it has no central lounge area of its own – and its activities and meals still revolve around the nearby Waterberg Wilderness Lodge.
