In December 2005, several hours' flight north, a lodge opened up on Vamizi, a beautiful crescent-shaped island in a very isolated location near the Tanzanian border. Vamizi is the first of several lodges planned by the conservation-minded investors of the Cabo Delgado Biodiversity & Tourism Project - also known as Maluane. After this, they plan similar lodges on Rongui, Macaloe, and in the mainland's Messalo Wildlife Area.
We visited Vamizi twice in 2005, as it was being built. Set in the forest's fringe, its 12 vast luxury beach villas have been built to a staggering quality beside an endless beach. This will be the ultimate Africa getaway, with excellent snorkelling and diving right off the island.

Special interests
Beach holidays: In the extreme north of Mozambique, Vamizi is probably the most remote of the small island lodges in the Quirimbas Archipelago. For the ultimate in remote private islands - with a terrifically long, deserted beach - this is your place!

Diving & snorkelling: There is excellent coral in this pristine and largely unexplored area, and first-rate snorkellling trips can be done less than a few hundred metres from the beach

Vamizi review
We had a superb time on Vamizi Island. When we arrived, the management of the resort had recently changed hands and they seemed to be making various changes.
The food was absolutely delicious.
