On the Mozambique mainland, across the bay from Pemba Town, Londo Lodge stands on a sandy cove. The lodge was being finished when we last visited in 2005, and its six large, octagonal rooms were set high on a coral cliff. The build-quality here was impressive, from its curved wooden decking to a hand-dug, coral stone swimming pool – it was taking time to build but it seemed to be being built very well.
Our only reservation about the lodge concerned its location; Pemba Bay is quite busy with boats, and far from the pristine isolation found on some of the offshore islands. The latest news (in July 2006) is that it opened on 1st of July 2006. The Londo Lodge team describe their own place as follows:

Situated on a peninsula just south of the Quirimbas National Park and overlooking the beautiful Pemba bay, the third largest natural bay in the world, the lodge nestles in a quiet bay with the warm ocean waters lapping onto the shores of Londo Lodge beach.
The lodge has 6 private villas guaranteeing full privacy for each guest. Another two Bush Villas surrounded by Mozambique Baobab bush will be completed by the end of the year. The lodge facilities include an eclectic African / Asian restaurant, idyllic sunset beach bar, first floor library and cigar bar, baobab bush outdoor grill area, breathtaking cliff edge swimming pool and massage facilities on request.
Each villa has its own unique, distinctive style with a blend of traditional sub-Saharan African, Moroccan and Indian design styles.
The villas are built with local timber, bamboo and makuti thatched roofing and feature a king-size bed with English handmade mattresses, exclusive Belgian bed linen, air conditioning, a luxurious bathroom with outdoor shower and a romantic private teak deck with sunset views.”
