Lechwe Plains Tented Camp is the only permanent safari camp inside Zambia's Lochinvar National Park.
It's comfortable and peaceful with six large, en-suite tents all overlooking an expanse of the lagoon. It organises a variety of 4WD game-viewing and bird-watching sorties, walks and canoeing excursions. Most of the lodge's team come from a local fishing village and interested guests can spend time with the villagers.
We understand that at present the camp is undergoing a full refurbishment and rebuilding programme - and that while no specific opening date has been set, it is expected to be closed until at least 2009. Ask us for the latest details.
Birdwatching: One of Southern Africa's most important wetland areas, Lochinvar attracts very large numbers of birds.
