Bawe Tropical Island is a newly opened boutique hotel which sits on a small private island just off the coast of Zanzibar. Currently, Expert Africa has not managed to visit Bawe Island which means that we are unable to give our usual detailed review on this property. So though we look forward to being able to describe it in our own words, in the meantime here are some details from the lodge themselves –
Bawe Tropical Island is a private island which faces Stone Town, the capital of Zanzibar. It is reached by a comfortable 25'minutes boat ride from town. Bawe island is a romantic getaway in the calm waters of the Indian Ocean, the perfect retreat for those wishing to escape from the outside world.
This exclusive island offers 15 sea facing cottages, each with a private wooden deck overlooking the sea, and spacious interiors. Features include dhow-type beds and an en-suite bathroom with an al fresco shower, two basins and bathtub.
The restaurant features local as well as international cuisine, specializing in the delicious seafood and fish specialities cooked in the ancient Swahili recipes, with delicious spices. Then five bars offer guests the chance to indulge their senses: the swimming pool bar, the Robinson Crusoe Bar on the beach, the main indoor bar, the Sunset Deck or the Baobab Deck.
The biggest decision in Bawe is to decide where to lie down: either on the white sandy beach, or near the fresh water swimming pool – both of which are private and only for guests.
All activities such as excursions and fishing, diving, etc, can be organized from the hotel.
