Map of the Cape of South Africa showing holiday areas and national parks |
This map splits areas for holidays and safaris in the Cape into seven areas, each marked by a large blue marker. Read about them by clicking on these large markers.
To see the more detailed maps of these areas follow links in the bubbles – or at the bottom of the page. These more detailed area maps mark the precise locations of various different hotels, guest houses and safari lodges and camps – and can be viewed as fully-detailed street maps in some areas.

Things to see on this map of the Cape
Firstly, note the scale in the bottom-left of the map: the Cape is relatively large.
You'll also see that whilst Cape Town, the main Wine Region, and Hermanus area are relatively close – and you can, if you wish, base yourself in any one of these, whilst driving on short day-trips to see the others.
However … if you head to the northern Cape, then Namaqualand, Augrabies Falls, and the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park are all quite a long way from Cape Town. In fact, many visits to the Kgalagadi start with a flight to the nearest large town, Upington, whilst others are combined into a longer self-drive holiday that visits both Namibia and the Cape.
Looking east from Cape Town along the coast, you'll see the Garden Route, and the area marked as the Southern Cape Game Parks. The latter is north of the city of Port Elizabeth, and you'll find a number of safari reserves in this malaria-free area – some of which are family-friendly. The Garden Route is easiest to visit on a self-drive trip: one popular option is to start at Cape Town, and then drop your vehicle at Port Elizabeth to fly from there.
To dig deeper for much closer views of the various areas, click onto any of the markers. Then follow the links inside the bubbles, for maps of these areas with precise locations for the various guest houses, hotels, safari camps and lodges. Many areas can be viewed as satellite images or street maps; click on the Map / Satellite / Hybrid buttons at the top-right of the map.
