Things to see on this Serengeti map
The Serengeti National Park is a vast park, but pictured is the 'Serengeti Migration area' – the area used by the wildebeest on their annual migration – and this is even larger. It's often called the 'Greater Serengeti area'. This Serengeti Migration area includes the surrounding wildlife areas: Loliondo Game Controlled Area, to the east; part of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, to the south and south-east; Maswa Game Reserve, to the south-west; and even Kenya's Masai Mara Game Reserve, across the border to the north.
To get a feel for these different areas, take a glance at our Serengeti National Park map, which marks all these areas clearly, as well as some of the camps and lodges.
If you zoom out one step from this map (click the 'minus' sign on the bottom of the slider control on the map), you'll see how the Serengeti is sandwiched between Kenya, lake Victoria, and the Great Rift Valley. Note also how the southern side of the park is to the Ngorongoro Crater area, Lake Manyara, Tarangire and even Arusha.
The proximity of these parks makes guided 4WD safari practical here, can mean that the southern side of the Serengeti – which is the most accessible side – becomes busy at times.
